About Your Guide

A lifelong Pungo, North Carolina native, Tyler O’Dell has been hunting since he could carry a shotgun. With years of experience and a deep passion for the outdoors, he’s the go-to guy for guided swan hunts and drum fishing in Eastern North Carolina. Tyler knows the land, the water, and the game like the back of his hand, giving his clients a top-notch experience every time.

Since launching Blackland Guide Services in 2009, he’s helped hundreds of hunters and fishermen check off bucket-list goals — whether it’s dropping their first swan, reeling in a trophy drum, or just making unforgettable memories with good friends and family. Tyler doesn’t just guide trips. He builds friendships, and that’s why folks keep coming back year after year.

When he’s not guiding, Tyler works as a Research Technician with the NC State Extension Service at the Vernon G. James Center. He and his wife are raising their two boys to love the outdoors as much as they do, passing down the traditions of hunting, fishing, and respecting the land.
